Women just can't win
Your Author has emerged from her Hallowe’en candy coma. She hopes this post finds all Dear Readers well.
Our Commonwealth has many interesting updates. Here are a few.
First, I call shenanigans! PA Senate Bill 9, The Save Women's Sports Act, has yet again been reassigned to a different committee. State Representative Barbara Gleim, R-199, called out House Democrats on their stalling tactics:
Gleim is referring to Senate Bill 9, known as the Save Women’s Sports Act, as the legislation which drew Democrat support when passed to the House but has yet to be taken up in committee. Senate Bill 9 was first assigned to the House Education Committee, and then after 15 consecutive legislative days, was discharged by Gleim, only to have it re-referred to the House Health Committee. Again, after sitting for 15 consecutive legislative days, Senate Bill 9 was re-referred on Wednesday to the House Judiciary Committee.
The motion to re-refer SB 9 to House Judiciary was made by Representative Dan Frankel, D-23. The motion passed 14-12 along a strict party-line vote.
Good grief, House Dems! Why do you refuse to guarantee basic fairness and safety in women’s athletics? Misogyny, big donors, delusions, all of the above, or something else??
Second, Governor Josh Shapiro (D) joined Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to fight a US Department of Justice subpoena seeking information related to possible insurance fraud involving “GAC” for minors. Governor Shapiro joined 15 other states’ attorneys general in filing an amicus curiae.
“If enforced, DOJ’s subpoena to CHOP would threaten all states’ ability to regulate the practice of medicine,” write Shapiro and the 15 attorneys general. “It is part of an effort to end a specific type of care for a particularly vulnerable population, even though there is no federal law prohibiting such care.”
The alleged insurance fraud involving GAC at children’s hospitals may be more pervasive than previously thought.
Third, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a TIM is running for mayor of Downingtown.
The historic nature of [Mr Deuso’s] campaign has likely driven attention and funds to the race. [He] has earned endorsements from several organizations that back LGBTQ+ and women candidates. And [he’s] received donations from outside the state and outside Chester County, including a $3,000 donation from Greater Than PAC, which supports progressive women. [Emphases added.]
Noting that Downingtown is in a majority Democratic district, the Inquirer writes that Mr Deuso has a good chance to win.
Why are PACs that allegedly support women candidates donating money to a man? Whatever his stance on election issues, Mr Deuso is not a woman. He will never be a woman. He is diverting much-needed funds from women candidates. These PACs say that men make better women than women.
Fourth, US Senator Dave McCormick (R) joined US Senate Republicans urging HHS Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr to rescind approval for mifepristone.
McCormick’s signature on the letter could signal a change in how the Pennsylvania Republican views abortion regulation. During his campaign last fall, McCormick said during a debate that he wants to leave regulation to individual states, which has been the status quo since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. His backing of the letter, which encourages sweeping policy decisions at the national level, suggests otherwise.
Women just can’t win. Both the left and the right intend to deny us our basic rights. Dems want to legislate us out of existence, and GOP want to deny us our bodily autonomy. No wonder why so many women say they are politically homeless.
Now our much-needed lagniappe:

We really can't. I think one of the main reasons is that most of us aren't really on our own side. We just join one of the two anti-woman sides.
