Pennsylvania has a high maternal mortality rate. This is a serious issue, but the state is making it less serious by using dehumanizing language in a survey designed to help solve the problem.
Consider this an opportunity to tell the state what you think of referring to women as “pregnant people” and normalizing the destruction of healthy young bodies.
Twitter user CattyArt1 explains it well here.
You can fill out the survey here. Use the “other” boxes to tell them you’re an adult human female. Or an adult human male that can't get pregnant. Tell them that men cannot be women and women cannot be men. Tell them that destroying the fertility of young people is evil. Tell them that body mutilation does not solve mental problems. Tell them that medical conversion therapy is still conversion therapy. Tell them the truth.
Thanks for spreading awareness! I’m CattyArt- I copied the verbiage I posted from an online newsletter I receive from PA Parents and Advocates for sex-based rights. 💕
I filled it out, too, as did a couple of friends. Thank you for spreading the word.
I looked up the project that this survey was created to support, the Maternal Health Strategic Plan, and I noticed on the government website intended for the general public, all the wording is about "mothers," "women," and "moms." Then, just as you say, if you go to the survey, there is a bunch of garbage language. It's as though they're trying to hide their agenda while at the same time forcing it on us.
