The Woman Behind DIAG's Polling Report
We talk to Janet in California about Changing Attitudes Toward Gender on the Left
One of our more popular posts has to do with polling numbers indicating that many rank-and-file Democrats are starting to turn on gender ideology. The report, which you can download in full here, was produced by Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender. Specifically, the data was compiled by a DIAG volunteer in California who also happens to be a friend to PA 4 Sex-Based Rights. We spoke to Janet in California about the report.
How did you get involved with DIAG?
I got involved in Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (DIAG) as an ordinary progressive Democrat who was disturbed by how fast and easy the Democratic party espoused "gender dogma," as I call it, this belief that we all have "gendered souls" that are expressed by sex stereotypes. The idea that children and adults both need hormones and surgeries to realize their "true selves" isn't just insane, but regressive AF! When I found out about DIAG, I reached out immediately and asked them, "What can I do to help?"
How did you compile the polling data?
The polling data I knew about for a while, having spent years looking into the issue myself. I knew what organizations conduct research on public opinion (Pew Research, Guttmacher Institute, etc.). When it came to opinions about "gender dogma by political party," I knew they would have something. I knew other groups like Women's Liberation Front, a Radical Feminist organization, were concerned about these issues due to the dangers mixed-sex bathrooms, sports, and prisons pose on women and children. They were the only organization to sue the state of California for having passed SB 132, allowing male transfers into women's prisons. Most of those male prisoners had been convicted of rape and other violent offenses against women and children. So, I knew I could look into them if they had any data on the situation.
What do you think the biggest takeaway from the report is?
The biggest takeaway from the report is that the more Democrats see what comes of these policies, the less likely they are to support them. All of us on the Left start out with a baseline of being accepting of others and open-minded, but Democrats have been seeing full-intact "male lesbians" watch them and their young daughters undress in changing rooms; men masturbating in women's restrooms at the library; boys giving their girls concussions and other injuries in sports; violent men gaining access to vulnerable women in shelters and prisons; lesbian bars being effectively outlawed in the Bay Area for not allowing males in their spaces and in their dating pools. And let's be clear, Democrats are still accepting of other people regardless of how they present or identify, but empathy and respect are not one-way streets. If we saw these policies were benefiting society, we would be seeing more Democrats in favor of them, but the opposite has been true. That's because more Democrats have been realizing that these policies are intimidating and endangering women, girls, and especially same-sex attracted females out of public participation -- and that's neither fair nor progressive!
