Another Letter to PA State Representative Lindsay Powell
PA4SBR previously covered the State House Democrats’ refusal to allow bills protecting women’s athletics to reach a floor vote here and here. Subscriber and Coalition member Alexis Pasternak replied to Rep Powell. I reproduce her letter here with her permission.
Dear Representative Powell,
Thank you for taking the time respond to our coalition letter regarding HB 158 and similar bills.
You stated in your response that, “This legislation would require school athletic teams designated for girls and women to exclude transgender athletes from participating consistent with their gender identity.” That’s certainly one way to frame this bill.
The thing is, gender identities do not play sports. Sexed bodies do, and male bodies and female bodies are very different from one another. A student who claims their gender identity does not match their sex can still participate according to their sex if they can’t play consistent with their gender identity. They can still be included and they can still play. And guess what? They can still perceive themselves to be whatever they want and express themselves pretty much however they want. There is no right or wrong way to be a boy or a girl or a man or a woman.
I ask you to reconsider your position should this bill come up for a vote.

In our commonwealth today, female students are subjected to sharing bathrooms and locker rooms with male students. Girls are forced to compete against boys in high school sports, often losing college scholarship opportunities. Many school districts across the state have policies supporting or mandating these practices.
The situation has become so dire that some legislators are trying to pass the Save Women’s Sports Act to stop this nonsensical interpretation of Title IX. While 54 years ago the Democrats led the way to protect girls and women, today, specifically in Pennsylvania, they are the ones failing females. Currently Republicans, along with a few commonsense Democrats, are fighting to protect girls.

The legislation expands New Jersey’s shield laws by expressly including gender-affirming care in the definition of “protected reproductive healthcare services.”
Essentially, the law creates a new crime for interfering with someone trying to access reproductive healthcare, such as an abortion, or gender-affirming care.
Once again, the trans lobby has successfully hijacked a legitimate human rights issue to promote their lunacy. Sex rejection has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with reproductive rights. We cannot allow this to happen in PA!

When rich men (and it’s mostly men) rent poor women’s uteruses to buy children, this is human trafficking and a human rights violation. Dr Caplan writes nothing about the welfare of women and children, only what’s best for their buyers. Dr Caplan is also in favor of sex-rejecting procedures for minors. Go figure.

Annoyingly, this article didn’t address how banning surrogacy would, in any way, infringe upon a woman’s right to an abortion or cause other problems for women’s rights, and I’m fairly certain I know the reason why:
Addressing how surrogacy takes a woman’s body and puts it under contract as another person’s property to buy children is indefensible if you are truly pro-choice. Allowing people to buy a womans’ body and then decide for her on whether she gives birth or has an abortion for whatever reason is the antithesis of “My body, my choice.” This publication is likely highlighting it as an “anti-abortion agenda” solely because it has something to do with “queer people,” but no one has the right to children or to commodify women’s bodies (which another argument I’m annoyed the article didn’t recognize. They only talked about how conservative are against “commodifying children” and seemed to neglect that the implied circumstances is that its women’s bodies being commodified to make children.)
Carrying and bringing life into this world is a deeply personal experience that comes with life-changing consequences, including physical, mental, emotional, and psychological consequences. Every woman has to decide what she’s going to do about a pregnancy for herself for her to be at peace with whatever happens next. Whether it’s the government or a contract that takes away that right, it all reduces women to the status of property and removes woman’s security and sense of self as a human being to own herself.
